The gift of a dictionary is more than just a book—it's a tool that opens the door to learning, curiosity, and lifelong success.

Each fall, Chicora Rotary proudly partners with two local rural elementary schools for its annual Dictionary Project. Through this service project, students receive their own personal dictionary to use both in the classroom and at home.

Our volunteers personally deliver the dictionaries to each classroom and lead a fun, interactive presentation that helps students discover all the fascinating resources their new dictionaries contain. Together, they explore everything from the longest word in the English language, the periodic table, sign language, facts about the United States, and much more. The program encourages students to see the dictionary as more than a place to look up words—it's a resource filled with knowledge and discovery.

One of the highlights of the year for our members, the Dictionary Project creates meaningful connections between Rotarians and students. The excitement in the classrooms is contagious as students eagerly participate, ask questions, and proudly write their names in their very own dictionaries.

By investing in literacy and education, Chicora Rotary hopes to inspire a love of learning while providing students with a resource they can use for years to come. It's a simple gift that leaves a lasting impact.
