Chicora Rotary Holding Annual Event to
Celebrate Horry County Schools

Myrtle Beach, SC–Sunday, April 19, Chicora Rotary of Myrtle Beach will host the third annual Waves of the Future-Rotary’s Celebration of Horry County Schools.  The event will be held at The Calvin Gilmore Theater at 4 p.m. and tickets are on sale now.

Waves of the Future is a showcase of talent including singing, dancing and instrumentals featuring students ranging from elementary to high school age all from different Horry County Schools.  Last year’s event had 650 students participating and raised over $30,000 including $10,000 donated to Horry County Schools Fine Arts Programs. This year’s event is expected to have over 20 schools with 24 performances and over 650 students participating.  All proceeds from the event will go towards Horry County Fine Arts programs, and local and international Rotary projects including Polio eradication, water sanitation in Peru, the Dictionary Program and Project Happy Feet

“This event is a way to showcase the incredible talents of our students in Horry County.   Waves of the Future gives students of all ages the opportunity to participate in an event seen by hundreds of spectators and it allows Rotary to give back to the Fine Arts programs in our community,” says Van Watts, President of Chicora Rotary.

Our Service Project is scheduled for Saturday, 10/25/14.

The homeowner, Roberta Garris is a single female living on social security disability.  She recently had hip replacement surgery.  She lives alone and during one of the storms this year, a tree limb fell on her house but her homeowner insurance company denied her claim indicating that the roof lacked proper maintenance – had holes and no damage resulted from the tree limb.

Ms. Garris has applied for emergency housing rehab assistance.  Her insurance company notified her that her insurance policy will be cancelled if she does not get her roof repaired by November 13th.  If the Rotary will assist with the removal of the tree limbs, the Bradford Pear tree, trim some other trees and remove the unfinished deck, etc. – this would decrease the cost and time to repair her roof.   Ms. Garris has some other repairs that need to be accomplished but we are addressing the roof replacement first.

This project is located in the Ramsey Acres neighborhood and the address is 1090 Oak Drive.

We will again showcase theatrical talents of children grades K – 12.
